More Stuff
Freehand 9 boasts many other improvements and new capabilities. Freehand now
provides for improved .PDF (Acrobat) support, including gradients, embedding
fonts, and setting hyperlinks in the document to create interactive pdf files
for the Web. Freehand's integration with Adobe Photoshop is also a lot easier
now. When you open a Freehand file in Photoshop 5 or better the layers are
maintained. Other enhancements include a new lasso tool, relinking to external
files, better layer management, and a much improved method for selecting
objects within complex illustrations.
Final Thoughts
Freehand 9 is a major upgrade and is well worth having if you create Flash
animations or graphics for the Web. Flash is an excellent program but Freehand
has a more robust set of tools for creating high quality vector art. In fact
you can purchase the two programs together at a discount.
